1893 - 1932 Born in Co. Wicklow. Witnessed the 1916 rising and soon after joined Sinn Fein. Did work for Sinn Fein and Cumann na mBan during War of Independance. Was in Four Court area (June, 1922) during civil war and actually fought for the anti-treaty forces. Took part in a plot to kidnap the free state Taoiseach in 1923. Was arrested and imprisoned in Mountjoy Gaol. Went on hunger strike and was soon transferred to an internment camp in north Dublin. Escaped, only to be re - imprisoned in Kilmainham Gaol where she went on a 27 day hunger strike before being released. Travelled to America in 1924 to collect funds for Sinn Fein. Joined staff of Irish Press in 1934 and stayed on until 1965 when she retired. In 1969 publish "The First Dail." Arrested at the age of 81 on a Sinn Fein platform in 1974. Continued to be a supporter and campaigner for Sinn Fein until her death in 1982.
