6 March, 1988

Mairead Farrell, Sean Savage, Dan McCann...

On 6 March, 1988 3 unarmed IRA members were shot dead by the SAS in Spain. One witness claimed they were shot as they attempted to surrender. They were there on a mission for the IRA, and the police claimed they feared the car they had just left would be remotely detonated if they did not shoot to kill. In fact there were no explosives in that car. More than a dozen officers took part in the shooting. Within the next fortnight a number of incidents were set off in the North of Ireland as a result. Kevin McCracken was killed near the wake of Sean Savage on 14, March. 3 people were then killed by a loyalist murderer at the funeral for the Gibralter Three. All are remembered by Irish Republicans every year for the tragic loss of their lives.
