20th Jan. 1902 - 1st Nov. 1920

Joined Irish volunteers in 1917. Became active member during War of Independance. Took part in multiple raids, including the burning of hackettstown barracks. Was captured during an ambush on a miltary guard protecting bread being delivered to military barracks in Dublin. Two british soldiers were killed. The rest of Barry's comrades escaped, but he was captured. Charged with murder he refused to recognise the british court and did not put up any defense. Hung by the british gov't. for the murder of a british officer despite numerous political requests to commute sentence due to age. His apparent beating by the british prior to his execution caused vast outcry. He was buried on prison grounds and no family or "outsider" was permitted to attend. The song written about him is a commemoration to his courage.
