Protestant leader in the United Irishmen. He was a prominent wool merchant. Arrested with 14 others on 12 March 1798. Sentenced to be killed as a leader of the rebellion. Saved at the last minute with gov't negotiations with other prisoners. He died shortly thereafter of a heart attack.
