Executions of 1916 PDF Print E-mail

These were the leaders and rebels of 1916 who were executed on orders of a General maxwell.

They died for their country and some of those who were executed considered themselves to have "struck Lucky" for the honour. They were given semi-secret trials and no defense in the days immediately after the Rising. The first three were not allowed last rites after their death. Rest in Peace

The british refused to allow their bodies to be returned to their families. They were all buried in a mass quick-lime grave so there would be nothing left for people to honor. The british failed. Their memories are still with us.

A Cork Volunteer, Thomas Kent, was also captured and killed on 9, May in Cork. He had shot a policeman while fleeing arrest two days after the Dublin Rebellion was over.
