Born in Lancashire. Arrested in 1915 and spent four months in Mountjoy Gaol. Arrested again in 1916 he was deported to england where he escaped from Reading Gaol. Commanded Western Division of IRA during 1916 Rising. After the Rising he got away to America and after being arrested there was released in 1918. He then went on a lecture tour of America and worked to raise funds for the IRA. He returned to Ireland in 1919 and was the director of supplies for IRA during the War of Independance. Opposed the 1921 treaty and helped in the taking of the Four courts area, Dublin on 25 June, 1922. He and others were executed by the free state firing squad in december as a reprisal for the killing of a free state deputy.
