Born 1851 - Died 1948

Best known as the father of Joseph Plunkett, but a fervent Nationalist in his own right. Published his first volume of verse in 1877. Later became a Papal Count created by Pope Leo XIII. Was elected president of the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language in 1906. Joined IRB in 1916. Travelled to Germany to give messages to Roger Casement, who was attempting to procure arms there for the upcoming Rising. After the Rising Plunkett was deported to Reading Gaol. He was elected in Feb. 1917 on an abstentionist ballot in North Roscommon By-Election. Called the First assembly of Dail Eireann on 21, January 1919. Opposed the traitorous treaty of 1921 which was made with the brits. he was a member of the Second Dail and in 1938 was one of the signatories to sign over their mandate to govern Ireland to the Army Council of the IRA. This is still in effect today as it has been continuously passed down from generation to generation.
